Zombie Apocalypse Prediction Date – Statistics

Here at We Zombie, we’ve been running the Zombie Apocalypse Prediction Date calculator for 2 years, updating the date daily based on the proprietary ZAPD formula as follows:

For an explanation of the formula, see the ZAPD explanation page.  We’ve collected enough information on the dates calculated so far to run some statistics.

Statistics through June 2nd, 2012:

With all of the strange news lately – cannibalism, raged-out people throwing intestines and chewing attacks, the media is alive with talk of the coming zombie apocalypse. This has moved the zombie apocalypse prediction date very close, less than a year out. Usually, this much zombie activity on the Internet happens only as Halloween nears.

If this were an actual zombie apocalypse, this is how it would start – seemingly random events of crazy attacks, government denial, and most importantly, people seeking news and advice on search engines. The ZAPD formula is based on this kind of information.

After 2 year’s worth of data, the statistical facts have changed slightly:

The apocalypse is still extremely unlikely to happen in October or November.
The most likely month for the zombie apocalypse is now December.
The most likely day of the month for the zombie apocalypse is still the 26th.
The most likely time of the day is still in the afternoon between noon and 6 P.M.
The most likely day of the week is still Thursday.
The Zombie Apocalypse is around 340 days away.

Statistics through July 8th, 2011:

Signs of the zombie apocalypse have been stable recently, as shown in the graph below.

After a year’s worth of data, the statistical facts are also staying consistent:

The apocalypse is extremely unlikely to happen in October, or November or January.
The most likely month for the zombie apocalypse is still July.
The most likely day of the month for the zombie apocalypse is still the 26th.
The most likely time of the day is in the afternoon between noon and 6 P.M.
The most likely day of the week is Thursday.
The Zombie Apocalypse is around 1300 days away.

Statistics through May 15, 2011:

A graph of the number of days until the zombie apocalypse shows a huge dip where the zombie apocalypse was only around a year away. This was the day before Halloween where search engine results for the term zombie and zombie apocalypse were influenced by the Halloween holiday.  Things settled down, and after an evaluation of the frequencies of the apocalypse date data for nearly a year’s worth of data, the statistical facts are now:

The apocalypse is extremely unlikely to happen in September, October, or November.
The most likely month for the zombie apocalypse is July.
The most likely day of the month for the zombie apocalypse is the 26th.
The most likely time of the day is in the morning between noon and 6 P.M.
The most likely day of the week is Thursday.
The Zombie Apocalypse is around 1500 days away.

Statistics through December 12, 2010:

A graph of the number of days until the zombie apocalypse shows a huge dip where the zombie apocalypse was only around a year away.  This was pretty scary, but it turns out to be caused by Halloween. There was a huge increase in the number of zombie and zombie apocalypse news stories in the weeks leading up to Halloween, and search engine results for zombies were also high due to the popularity of zombies as a costume for Halloween.  Thankfully, things began returning to normal after the holiday – the apocalypse won’t happen for several years, giving us time to prepare.  After an evaluation of the frequencies of the apocalypse date data, the statistical facts are now:

The apocalypse is extremely unlikely to happen in February or March.
The most likely months for the zombie apocalypse are December and January.
The most likely days of the month for the zombie apocalypse are the 23rd or 26th.
The most likely time of the day is in the morning between 6am and noon.
The most likely day of the week is Thursday.

Statistics through September 25, 2010:

A graph of the number of days until the zombie apocalypse shows a strong downward trend in the last month. This downward trend is due mostly to the increase in the number of news stories related to zombies, plus an increase in the number of search results for the term “zombie apocalypse” across the major search engines during the past couple of weeks.  We’re not sure why the sudden change during the two week period, but it is alarming if the trend were to continue.  As of right now, the zombie apocalypse will be here in approximately 8 years, which is still plenty of time to prepare and get things in order. Some other interesting facts:

The apocalypse is extremely unlikely to happen in February, March, or April.
The most likely month for the zombie apocalypse is the month of July.
The most likely day of the month for the zombie apocalypse is the 26th.
The most likely time of the day is in the morning between 6am and noon.
The most likely day of the week is Thursday.

Oh , and another thing. I think the reason that I’m just that damn crazy is because my birthday is March 12. Hmm, maybe just the month it’s self. Idk. :\

  4. Lauren says:

If I wanted to play with the zombie world in real life, I most likely would,
Mostly because I’m just that damn crazy. And not just that, I have a perfect
Shot. So that’s semi prepared, right? But then, I have a 22 riffle. Do y’all
Think a 22 riffle would work or no? Just asking just in case if the date of the
Appocolipes does come and it’s closer than we think. I mean, it could happen
Tomorrow night for crying out laoud.

    • zombielord says:

Lauren. If you can shoot them in the head with it, you’re good if it happens.

It’s a good thing you’re a perfect shot because if it happens it won’t be zombies like night of the living dead, it will be infected like RE. If it happens, anyone who isn’t a perfect shot will need either 20 tool sheds of ammo or explosives to survive.
